Hi,

Just started my 2nd year of college a month ago and Java is one of the new things that I'm learning this year (for the next 2 or 3 years!).

The only problem is that I've missed the last week of college due to being ill and it looks like I could miss out on another week or so. So, basically what I'm asking is: Does anyone know any decent eBooks or sites that teach you Java from scratch?

Thanks,
Jamie.

i cant recommend pluralsight highly enough!!

http://www.pluralsight.com/

After a short free trial its £19 per month but its worth every penny!

im currently sat with 3 other developers and they also say there is nothing that comes close.

Covers every DEV tech ive ever needed.

Thanks everyone.

PluralSight looks decent, might try out the free trial.

Agree about codecademy, just started using that a few weeks ago for JavaScript but unfortunately there's no Java on it for some strange reason.

Books get Head First Java 2nd Edition. Online you can't really beat Oracles tutorials. Also sign up for stack overflow and read through the questions and answers people post.

Get yourself familiar with the Java API. You will want to reference it a lot.

You may want to sign up for Project Euler as well it's an excellent way to apply the programming you have learnt to mathematical problems then see how others approached it and also the best methods.
