Hello :)

We're putting together an affiliate scheme for a company that offers telephone legal advice. They're not ambulance chasers, they provide quality legal advice on all areas of law - family, driving, consumer, employment, etc.

Their pricing structure works broadly like this:

- For the first call you pay £60 (that's an unlimited call)
- You also get free access to a load of legal guidance material
- For any subsequent calls you pay £40 (again, time unlimited)

There's two packages, one for the individual and one for the small business so it's quite widely targetted.

We want to get some decent affiliates signed up - targetting these sort of end users:

- forums and communities with potential legal related issues (eg driving, consumer, small business advice)
- legal advice websites with good search rankings
- good legal domain name sites with traffic

That's the background...

I want some guidance from people that regularly use affiliate schemes as to the most attractive commission rates. Obviously, it needs to be as high as possible! But at what level would you be most incentivised? At what level would you think it's too cheap?

The prices as quoted above are yet to be finalised, but you can probably ignore that as they're not far off.

The initial thinking is to go for:

- £3 per first call for the first 10 calls in a month
- £5 per first call thereafter
- £2 per additional call for the lifetime of each client referred

As with most schemes, there would be a minimum pay out (say £10), with payments made monthly.

What are you thoughts on those numbers? Is it too little? Too much? Do we need to re-think the structure?

Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated...

Thanks in advance

Personally I would say the amount is too little and should be about double if you want serious affiliates. I have a solicitor I can refer work to and get a substantial amount. If yours was say £10 each paid for call THEN I would look seriously at it.

Thanks for that, will feed it back to my client.

Anyone else?

Yep, I think you should try to pay a bit more.

Front page headline of yesterday's London Evening Standard was about Legal Aid solicitors - who earn far less then commercial ones - raking in more than a million quid a year. £3 is not much compared to that.

Just to update on this, the scheme and the pricing structure has undergone a complete overhaul.

Once the figures are finalised I'll post them on here for any other comments.

It should be noted that this service is one off telephone legal advice with a fixed price, whereas a referral to a solicitor could end up in thousands of pounds worth of fees - and hence a big commission.

But the above points have been noted, along with feedback from elsewhere, and the payouts are now much much more attractive.

I hope :)

The general idea is a good one and indeed one that has gone through, and got lost in, my brain already. Have you got a url already, and who exactly is giving the legal advice ?

I'll PM you the link. The current website is as it has been for years. The new one is under development and will be launched shotly before the affiliate scheme is.
