Lloyds of London
What you should do is create a thread on a forum shouting about your possible purchase, that way when the lawyers come knocking they won't have any prior evidence of you acknowledging an already popular brand...
The fact you answered figleaf007 question of "So, if a site wasn't allowed to be built on it regarding insurance, then what would you build on it? "
With > "Well it was originally a coffee shop in the 1700's LOL"
That isn't an answer and clearly shouts... HELLO I'M BUYING THIS NAME WITH ALL THE WRONG INTENTIONS!!!
The fact that if you just do a simple google search for "Lloyds of London" you are faced with page... after page... after page of results solely referring to the insurance company should have given you some indication you are treading on very dodgy ground? If you think by publicising / acknowledging in a forum thread that you've looked into the intellectual property side of things will put you in good stead for later action taken against you, you are very wrong as they will pick you apart very easily.
If you are going to do something like this, at least keep it to yourself because clearly you know what the real answer is to your original question.
Ps, In regards to trademarks they still have their 95 mark(s) and a 86 mark in classes 16, 35, 36 - So best you get your thinking cap on to what sector you're going to operate in with this amazing name which isn't going to get you into any kind of trouble...
Ahhhh... I bet you have family members called Lloyd who live in London and thats why this name interests you, i get it now
Seriously stay away, it's not like this is a generic which you could maybe have a stronger argument for .e.g. mcdonalds.london, hp.london and so on... in fact you'd prob stand a better chance of keeping Lloyds.london over your current idea.
I have just two questions for you? be great to know the answers.
1. Why did you put those two words together? e.g. LloydsOf
2. And why did you then want to connect those words with ".London"
At some point in our domain lives a high % of domainers have knowingly or unknowingly purchased a domain which they knew could get them in trouble, don't add to that percentage and stay clear of this one... stick with purchasing your strong keywords like mobiles.london etc as they may make you money rather than losing it.
Save your money and stop bidding
All the best,
BG
