I was recently looking for a name to make a mini site on when i came across this question...

If buying a domain name that is not regestered is it worth regestering a smaller name with a less exact search, or a longer name with a higher exact search?

(this is not the same but for example)

if spoonbending.co.uk only had 2k exacts

but spoonbendingforbeginners.co.uk had 7k

which would would be the better?

They're just example exacts by the way.

The way i see it its more advantageous to begin with to have more exact searches but as the site grows will the smaller name become more beneficial?

(this is excluding buying both names and just linking one to the other)

longer one would be better... if you are talking about a typical ministe of just a few pages,

If on the other hand you were talking about a big website or project then the shorter domain would be be brandable and recogniseable
