A whileback I was trying to figure out how to monetise 400-500 Chinese visitors (which were approx 2/3 of one of my site's traffic) this traffic was consistent everyday this amount from China.

Google Analytics is now showing me that I have lost all of this traffic for the last 7 days and I don't have a clue why! Does anyone have any ideas?

The traffic was labeled as "(direct)" in analytics which I'm assuming is from type ins but I have no idea why Chinese would be directly typing this site in (one of my student sites)

I also see that I have lost the traffic that was labeled as having source "zhidao.baidu.com" which I guess is a Chinese portal/search engine.

How can I lose the direct and portal/search engine traffic.

The only thing that makes sense is censorship or my site has been blacklisted behind a country firewall or something. Search engine re-indexing would only account for a tiny % if (direct) does mean type ins in analytics.

It's strange in the first place because like I said I have no idea why I was getting this traffic also

Has anyone else noticed anything strange happening with traffic through analytics, especially the last 7 days from china ;)

Woop,

What's the student site called? I have noticed anything strange from china (don't get much from there).

I can't list it just yet - am in talks to sell (although this might change things - maybe not!)

Chinese students? perhaps they were run over by tanks?

hammer I must be missing something, what are you talking about?

I think hammers refering to the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Where a lone student stood in front of several oncoming tanks.
