Andrew (PAB) do you have the PAB notes that led to this 'May 28 2008
Following recommendation from the Policy Advisory Body, Nominet has suspended the registration of any new .ltd.uk or .plc.uk domain names where the registered company name includes characters which cannot be represented in the DNS. This is pending a more detailed report from the PAB. '

Andrew can you also report this:-

A single character added to a company name is not so much of a problem as you can contend a company registration as being too similar to a previous registered company i.e. like adding a 's' to a company name. However, if you add a series of characters then companies house consider the name no longer to be similar and therefore cannot be successfully appealed.

The normal PAB meeting report should be published online by Nominet early next week. The report on the issue itself is still being written and agreed upon but shouldn't be far behind.

I will pass your comments on however you might want to wait until you have read both reports then email [email protected] before the next meeting.
