Hi,

I have a 2 word generic. I have just realised a major IT company is bringing out a product later this year that has the same 2 word generic as its product name.

I know this may be quite fortunate, BUT I am unsure of what to do now??

Does anyone have any ideas on how to approach the IT company and who in the company to approach ??

Or what other startegies could I use to get the maximum out of this situation.

All suggestions would be greatly welcome.

Regards,

Dont approach them and Dont park the domain with adverts that may be from the companies competitors. Personally I would put up a simple 'coming soon' holding page with a contact email address on it. If they want it they will approach you.

That would be my advice also :)

thanks for the advice... i agree otherwise there is no bargaining position i guess.

out of interest ..which department in a company deals with Domain purchasing requests.

Also does anyone have any take on the legal implications of this..??

Its not about bargaining positions, its about they might just get a trademark on your 2 word generic, if that happens and you have parked or tried to gain from it they could easily just get it from you for nothing because of trademark infringement.

If they want it you will find out, do not concern yourself with this. As the saying goes, softly - softly - cathey- monkey ;)

See above paragraph 1!

Indeed, my advice was to help you avoid the potential legal issues, not to gain a better bargaining position.
