So, I am looking to compile my own list of potential domains.

- If I have a list of 100,000 domains, is there a way of checking whether they are suspended or not quickly?
- Is there a limit to how many whois checks I can do per day?

I have a list of 25,000 odd domains that I want to check, it'll at least be a start anyway.

I am answering myself here after reading some other threads on AD.

- to do mass look up you need Nominet membership
- there is no central database of names, you have to find them yourselves.

I guess the next question is - would anyone be willing to help me scan these 25,000 domains that I have!

As you said, without Nominet membership and DAC access you're screwed really if working on big lists.

The simplest way to get a master list is to take the .net or .com zone file, extract the domains and replace the.com/.net with .co.uk.

The normal nominet whois allows you 1000 lookups per day, this is based on your ip address, so if you're not on a static ip you could get around that.

Something like this will do for smaller scans:

If you want something online, my bulk whois works on the same 1000 per ip basis, you can only do 50 at a time though:
