I posted a while back looking for some .me.uk's

I said budget up to 1k and PM a price. I had many responses, but nearly all without prices

So when I asked for prices many never even reply back. Logic dictates that the only reason is that they felt their .me.uk domains are worth more on reseller forum than 1k? when 99.99% you can't give away and many just drop.

So the question is - if they sent me names knowing a 1k budget and they wanted 1k each (which is fine) why not just ask 1k straight off?

I don't remember the last (or any) .me.uk I saw sold, they are only supposed to be used for "personal" websites and therefore not for commercial purposes. Nominet can block it's commerical use by not allowing any nameservers on the domain.

They were probably too embarassed to ask £1k!

9. Specific rules for the .me.uk SLD

9.1 Introduction

These are the specific rules for the .me.uk SLD, administered directly by us. They form part of and, in the case of conflict, take precedence over the Rules.

9.2 Charter

The .me.uk SLD is intended to provide a personal namespace within the .uk Top Level Domain. Unless Rules 9.4 or 9.5 apply, registrants of .me.uk domain names must be, and remain at all times, natural persons (a “qualifying person"), and shall not be recorded on the register as being the agent, trustee, proxy or representative for any person or entity (whether having an individual legal personality or not) which is not a qualifying person.

9.3 No actions unless in accordance with the Charter

Unless Rules 9.4 or 9.5 apply, no registration, transfer, renewal or change may be requested to a .me.uk domain name which would be in breach of Rule 9.2, and any such request may be rejected. If, despite the previous sentence, such an action is requested and does occur, Nominet may reverse that action at any time in addition to any other rights Nominet may have by contract or otherwise.

9.4 Charter

9.4.1 Where, as the result of the DRS or judicial proceedings (of relevant jurisdiction) a .me.uk domain name is to be transferred to a person who would not qualify under Rule 9.2 (the “transferee"), the transfer to, and continued registration by, the transferee shall be permitted provided that no use is made of that .me.uk domain name for any purpose, for so long as the transferee holds the domain name.

9.4.2 To prevent a breach of Rule 9.4.1, Nominet may put the domain name into a special status e.g. by blocking the entry of any nameservers onto the record for that domain.

9.4.3 The transferee under clause 9.4.1 will be able to transfer the domain name to a qualifying person, in which case the specific restrictions imposed under this Rule 9.4 will cease to apply.

9.5 Transitional Arrangements

As a transitional measure, any .me.uk domain name registered before 25 October 2004 will not be subject to Rules 9.2 and 9.3 until it is next transferred or cancelled.

I don't think there is an issue with the commercialisation of a .me.uk, just in the same way you can use a .org.uk for a commercial venture if you wish.

As I understood it, in a nutshell a .me.uk should be registered to an 'individual'.

I don't remember the last (or any) .me.uk I saw sold, they are only supposed to be used for "personal" websites and therefore not for commercial purposes. Nominet can block it's commerical use by not allowing any nameservers on the domain.

Did you buy any or was the original post just for research.

So when I asked for prices many never even reply back.

When I sent a name across to you (on a different thread which didn't even ask for prices) you replied with "Let me know prices and I'll tell you if you are dreaming or not "

Which just made me think you are a bit of a tool - nothing to do with not replying due to price, just not wanting to do business with you. Maybe others just thought the same.

ohh yes I did say that, but there was a reason why I said that in particular.. :-?

ahh I remember now, funny old thing, but maybe it was because I said pretty much don't bother unless (my post )SPECIFY A GUIDE PRICE

You know maybe your a greedy tool doing the old 'post a bunch of domains expect buyer to go "yeah I give you 1k for that one, that one and that one, what's your BACS!" when in reality your dam lucky someone might take a .me.uk off your hands.

Anyway luckily for me they were junk that will carry on rotting in your portfolio costing you renewals while you grow old waiting for the 'big one'. Why don't you prove me wrong and put them out in the offers invited section see how they go - and I can eat humble pie?

The domains I offered were Cornwall.org.uk, Devon.org.uk and Cotswolds.org.uk and matched exactly what you asked for in response to this post which you edited to ask for a guide price after I'd pm'd you - you even mentioned it in your PM.

If they are junk then you probably should change the criteria of the domains you actively advertise to buy.

Ok my fault, got me thread mixed but this is ref .me.uk not .orgs. Anyway I'm going to become one of these people that leaves cos they can' t hack being bullied :)

Have jobs.me.uk if anyone thinks they could do something with it.

Even have a logo for it...

With soaring prices - now could be a good time to buy it ;)

You’ll find many with me.uk also believe in chrysopoeia so remember when asking the alignments of certain planets must also be taken into account :D
