sedo have to sort it out

There reputation will suffer otherwise.

Unless when I sell or buy somthing in a future auction I can change my mind afterwards....sedo credability...ugh

This will damage buying and selling of big ticket names in the future if it is not sorted out.

Who wants to bid big money on a domain name knowing that it probably wont go through even if they do win it...

Lets see how it pans out but i think with the auction being so public and running for 7 or so days that for the seller to claim he didnt have the right is ludicrous. There is plenty of time to dispute things or cancel the auction.

Sedo washing their hands of other smaller auctions and not having insurance in place may bite them here

all assumptions at this stage though

I agree pugyrob. In my view, it's time for sedo to step up to the plate on a sale like this. If they let this fall through, then who is going to risk bidding when a big money name, without even knowing whether the purchase will be honoured.

Good luck - unfortunately there's been quite a few backouts from "won auctions" recently - including a £1500 sale for me which really piss3d me off.

That's nothing compared to your dilemma Angie - but I think it's an example of SEDO's desire to keep costs to a minimum and extract the maximum amount of money of sellers and buyers.

Also shame on the seller if they are getting greedy.... paying £10k to SEDO is a gut wrench.... but better than paying them £2.5k because you only sold for £25k.

As an aside, and reading this thread confirms a lot of this, SEDO need to get serious about their business :

i. With a lot of UK domain sellers, it's appalling that you can't transfer money to a UK bank account (so you have to take charges to send the wire)
ii. they have upped the min amount you have to pay them so smaller beer money domains are no longer viable
iii. they pass the buck over if the buyer doesn't pay.....
iv. transfer and credit of monies now takes a few days extra (i have had to push them to pay me when domains transferred three times in the past month)
v. I've yet to see real evidence of any aggresive marketing of premium domains (i have tried three premium generics over the past 2 years and didn't even get calls back on progress, ideas, tactics or even advice on pricing) and reckon they only ever notify the usual suspects within the overall community (ie. did they bother getting in touch with Vodafone, O2, CarphoneWarehouse etc over this domain - yeah right....) who most likely only keep an eye out for bargains.

Sorry <rant> over....

Good luck with whatever course you take - hope it works out the way you want.

Someone should set up a rival to sedo and do things properly, it certainly won't be hard to have a better website than theirs.

You are lucky. That name is not worth that amount. IMO.

Lucky or not, the most important thing is that the auction process at sedo works, and right now that unfortunately doesn't appear to be the case for some people here.

I guess the main thing on this is that the ball is well and truly in Sedo's court. For me, what they do on this and how they go from here is going to define them more than the buyer or seller.

Lucky since he will save his cash. If you have a generic name you do not need SEDO, endusers will find you or if you have the enough cash you will be an end-user and will find the owner. I also can say for high-caliber names SEDO systems generally falters. I had a that experience before. What SEDO did was after a few months just gave me his contact address.

SEDO always win don't forget!

I second your opinion.

But at the end of the day if you think it is a bargain I respect that and hope it gets sorted out, £80K is a lot of money for the seller even after paying Sedo their commission.

Good Luck.

If the mobilephones.com Registrant is the same entity as the .co.uk version, that is also listed with Sedo as for sale.

So the notion that the seller didn't authorise the sale doesn't add up so far.

Could be a domestic separation (married or otherwise) issue at the bottom of this?

The google trend is pretty stark for this one, yes. About half as many searches compared to a few years back. The seller is silly IMO. Used correctly, I still don't think it's a bad buy, but the seller pulling the plug isn't a wise move. Hold onto it for too long, as he'll regret backing out.

Half of what numbers a few years back? Are the figures adjusted proportionately to the search market growing?

Without knowing firmly what the figures show it is just a line, which should not be used for much.

Take 'domains' for example, the 'google trend' is massively downwards. What does that say? ;)

Its a good debate - worthy of a new topic!!

You're right. Almost everything drops in Google from '04-'06 levels, you need to consider outside factors (outside Google).

I'm just saying that it appears to be a trend, the actual search volume. The same downward trend isn't evdent with laptops, radios, tvs etc.

http://www.google.co.uk/trends?q=mobile+phones,+tvs,+laptops&ctab=0&geo=gb&geor=all&date=all&sort=0

Products like the i-phone are eating into the market, and those buying mobiles perhaps are more familiar with the big names in the market place, so don't bother searching for 'mobile phones'.

I don't think the sale was bad for either party. I'm just saying that as a search term in seems to be in decline.

There were a couple of us here watching the auction while in chat* - Ty must have had all his fingers at work because he certainly didn't let-up that he was bidding.

On the traffic comments made above - it was showing as just 88 uniques a month according to Sedos figures,

I won't join the Sedo bash, already had my say in another thread.

*(my error, we were using a SEDO thread as if it was chat - so the history is still there, I thought Ty was joking when asking who beat him)
