I have some of the best tech domains out there. But have never heard of modern technology, the mere mention of the word "modern" makes me wince.

Your best chance is companies house to see if there is a company called modern technology.

The 331 Million Google results for "Modern Technology" tend to suggest you should get out the house a bit more. ;)

To move this one on I will look into offers of just £150!

That's how many pages have got either modern or technology in them somewhere ;)

To get a good feel for the market try doing a search for allintitle: Modern Technology like this

Unfortunately that doesnt seem very reliable.

put "cheap domains" into allintitle and you get a similar set of results.

in fact put "domain market" into it and you get the grand total of 35!
Or "internet domain" gets you 574!

So Modern Technology must beat this WHOLE INDUSTRY if we were testing it that way.

What it shows is what people are actually writing about. If it's not important enough to be included in a title, the chances are that it's probably not the main term people use.

Some examples of popular domain terms

domain names

domain name registration

domain name for sale

cheap domain

As you pointed out cheap domains get relatively few results, why, because it isn't a term that gets used much. people will put cheap domain (hosting/registation/name/etc.) and not cheap domains which implies something different.

Also what I do is look at the sites that use this term in their titles, if there are lots of sites that concentrate on this topic rather than ones that are just writing a one-off articles, then you're probably on to a winner.

This is just something I do sometimes, I'm not saying it's perfect but IMHO it's a good way to judge a domains resale possibilities

Its certainly a different way of attempting to guess if a domain is sellworthy.

'Thats Modern Technology for you' is certainly an everyday expression when a person if referring to something, good, new & inventive and as many of the articles on google say its a massive profitable industry that also covers EVERYTHING.

At £150 surely someone must see appeal.
