My Story

Congrats on a great story. But let's face it, you could have got the same result using any 'good'/branded claims related domain serp results aside, on that note I wonder if this will just end up as another 'underwear' (no offence Frank you milked it for all it was worth v.well)

I'm just not sure.. about it.

so... until the next black and white animal update :)

No offence taken Julian at all, as I know how fond of it you were at the time, so I know totally where you are coming from :)

With regards to underwear (.co.uk) it has paid me back many times over what I invested into it, and it still makes some money today as is still ranked 1 in both yahoo and bing for the main term and also for long tail terms on Google also.

The main problem I encountered with underwear was the fact that it didn't work very well as an affiliate model due to customers wanting to purchase multiple items at the same time from different merchants, but was unable to do so due to having 30+ merchants on the site. Once I realised this (and I had also made a decent ROI) my interest in the project started to deminish as I realised to make a big success of it I either had to A). Become an actual underwear retailer myself B). Try the site with a single merchant C). Change the business model all together. Whilst deciding what to do for the best, the first black and white animal came along and it lost it's main ranking on Google which made me re-evaluate what I was doing as whole (not just with underwear) and I decided to just leave the site where it was as I had already began frying bigger fish and also putting eggs into other baskets anyway. Underwear still attracts interest but it is one of those names I am not in a rush to sell (especially not until after the .uk is decided at the very least) it will always have a decent value in my opinion too.

I can see both sides of what you and John are saying in regards to claims.co.uk, however I think I am more on John's side for a few different reaons. The domain name itself is the best you are ever going to get for that very lucrative industry, and he will never encounter the issue I had with underwear (eg the lead will be captured very easily as all the person needs to do is fill in the short form or make a phone call)

Great story and thanks for sharing John :)

dnjournal.com doesn't resolve for me, just times out. Been like that for days :(

I have the exact same issue Garth, and thought the site was down. I then tried it on my phone on the weekend (not via wifi) and it works fine - very odd !

Thanks. I'm using a vdsl land line from NZ with FireFox, no plugins.

I tried Chrome with Hola.org with US setting, it loaded very slowly to some extent then stopped.

Disappointed as I like to read Ron's articles.
