Can you imagine for a minute the amount of money that is being wasted on speculation in the new gtld's ( seen a name for sale recently capitals dot capital
Couple that with money being put into bitcoins to fund the early investors withdrawals and you can see that new money is not being directed into co.uk domains.
Also money is being wasted on catching worthless domains that are never going to find a use or buyer.
There are still a few that see the value of the brand and the benefits that come with investing in a quality co.uk but it's on a level which I think signals the bottom of the cycle.

I agree, there used to be a lot of inter-trade domainer buys and sells and everything had a much more speculative feel, a bit like the old saying put two antique dealers on a dessert island with an old chest of drawers and they'll both make a living. Feels a bit like all of the exciting potential the internet had held out has now become rationalised and monetised to within an inch of its life. Something else I've noticed is the abundance of agression and poor sentiment that crops up in just about every thread, such as the comment above
How long ago did you start thinking that a .co.uk was worth as much as what you are asking?
What does that even mean, I'm not selling you a domain???
As I try to consider which domains to get rid of (and how), which might have some value and those that I will probably own forever I still bought another 4 weeks ago for £1500 and while I might have paid a little over the odds for it (.co.uk/.uk) I still feel it was good value. Just my two penneth....

Not sure why but the value of .co.uk domains are definately going down. I would have thought they would be going up, as more and more domains are registered they should be more valuable for decent ones as its harder to get a good domain.
Either people don't understand the value of a good domain, or just think people are overpricing them, as they know that when they where first registered they where very cheap.
The average person is willing to spend thousands on a private car plate which is only for vanity reasons, where as with a domain name, it can be used to build a valuable business.
I personally think good short domain names (.co.uk / .uk) may become more valuable in the future. I know the google update killed off the values of long-tail keyword domains, but short, one word memorable domains (i.e. Money.co.uk should hopefully get more valuable).

I guess there is to much choice in the market now and a lot of the earlier opportunities that existed by virtue of a decent domain have been eroded due to the many changes made by google who now (inspite of Bing) have more or less monopolised the worth while income streams and dictate revenues accordingly. leaving the .co.uk's to stagnate in a heavily diluted pool of 'exciting new domain opportunities' such as .london etc.... Should have seen this coming I suppose.
It's a bit like the early days of webdev, offer a punter a decent price on a website and the normal reply was - nah that internets never gonna catch on, through to today - nah can make my own on the web for £30 or get the neighbors kid to make me one for a 100 quid. Some how Joe public/small business never cottoned on. I expect the natural progression from here is that we will all one day work for Google in one of their massive warehouses (wasp factories) either pressing buttons or (when they buy amazon) putting stuff in boxes...
Maybe I'm just being cynical, but now that they (Google) are researching cancer I can see a corrupted version of the old Bournville/Cadbury's business model coming back to life. IE. In the past you towed the line or lost your accommodation, in the future perhaps, you'll tow the line or Google will stop giving you the meds you need to keep a family member alive? OK that was too cynical, even Google couldn't behave more corruptly than our existing global pharma corporations! :evil:

In the past, .co.uk was the best uk domain extension, no question and no problem developing.
Right now you can't say for sure whether its .co.uk or .uk and you also can't say for sure whether you can 301 to the other successfully if you get it wrong.
Which makes developing on either, not a brilliant option.
