Just got this to a workable stage I think so please try it out. Will be working on the design etc. in the future.

Tested in IE and FF only. Any problems/suggestions please let me know.

UK Whois

Does the tool use our own quota of 1,000 lookups/IP/day?

It does Edwin using Whois2, no other way of doing it.

The weird thing is that my ip address has hit the limit going through the site but I can still do whois queries through nominet and my desktop applications etc. Very strange, in theory everything coming from my IP should be blocked.

There is absolutely no logging being done by the way!

Is anyone else getting a blocked message or is it working ok?

Cheers, Grant

That would be great if it does. So many tools out there dont show what is used/remaining against your IP.

As far as I know you can't get your used/remaining figures from the normal whois, you just use it until it blocks you.

Nice work Grant,

I didn’t realise there was a demand for such services. I’ve been using a [private] bulk whois1 tool myself for the past few months and know how easy it makes checking domains – especially as it won’t affect your DAC quota.

The reason I haven’t done anything public with it is that if I sign up for whois2 then I’m subject to condition 4.1 of the whois2 Terms and Conditions and as such may not be both the provider of the gateway and its end user. I take it you know this?

Not really a problem.

Looks neat but something weird happening for me.

Using Firefox 3.5.8 if I paste a few domains into the box and then click again in the box the domains just disappear.

It is very slick once you click Check Domains, good work, I like it. :)

The text area is set to show the instructions and clear them on click if no domains have been previously processed. I'm sure there's a way to fix that but for the time being don't click it after you've pasted domains in :)

Maybe something like this would do the job?

<textarea name="domain" rows="9" cols="40" onclick="if (document.cwhoisform.domain.value=='Enter up to 50 domains, one domain per line. UK domains only (.co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk)') document.cwhoisform.domain.value='';">Enter up to 50 domains, one domain per line. UK domains only (.co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk)</textarea>

You'd just have to play around with the carriage returns.

Just updated this. You can now also paste in keywords or phrases and append the extension. All spaces, non-domain characters will be removed. Nice for pasting in stuff from the google keyword tool!

That's it for now, need to do some proper work :)
