After starting to optimise my site last friday, www.buyingfirsttime.co.uk, i'm now ranking no.1 in MSN for the term 'First Time Buyer' and No.2 for 'first time house buyer'.

I'm pretty chuffed with those results, just need to do the same in Google.

With my little knowledge, First Time Buyer appeared a pretty competetive term. Have i achieved a good result?

I'm now targetting First Time Buyer Mortgage - now that will be really competetive!

It is indeed an excellent result - the msn search engine seems to be getting more popular IMO so you should see a pretty good amount of visitors from that. Congrats.

Impressive, but I don't see it:

As someone mentioned on here somewhere msn is the villiage bicycle. Averagely easy to get top results if you push the seo to the boundaries, and very quick as well. Trouble is, not so easy to get a lot of traffic from it. I have top ranking keywords in google, msn on one site...and i get 800% more traffic from google on those terms. I have often thought though that it is perhaps a different callibre of user that uses msn and as such different keywords work better than others....maybe less technically minded??

Well done on getting first time buyer no.1 though! Very nice!

I realise Google is the holy grail, i don't rate my chances of getting no.1 on Google, i'd be happy with the top 40!

The great thing about sites and search engines...you may never get top 10 for your best keywords, but it is the traffic that comes from random search queries people put in...odd combinations of keywords that you just so happen to have somewhere on a page and...hey presto a visitor!

well deserved congrats - first page of any search engine is a quality result

I don't know much about this stuff, but I do think it's a great achievement.

Please can you come back in a week or so and let us know if you've had a lot of traffic from it?

I'll certainly let you know how much traffic i've received, i've only optimised the first page, i want to try and optimise other pages for differnent search terms.

I've had first page results before but for things like company names, for example my company site XXXX Lettings is no.1 in Google and MSN, for XXXX Lettings search term(Its not really XXXX lettings!), but thats very different.

Next target a good google result!

Well as requested, i thought i'd let you know how much traffic i've received.

Between the 1st and the 9th i've received 27 visits from MSN, 14 of these were for the key phrase First Time Buyer, others search terms were related like first time house buyer etc.

During the 9 days my position bounced around a little, even disappearing at times and when i last checked i was i was no.8, although i've tweaked the site again and should be no1 again soon!

Overall i'm quite pleased with 27 visitors, most of them have clicked a Google Ad earning me reasonable revenue as this is quite a high paying keyword. If i can crack Google i'd be very happy!

I know the feeling, MSN jumps around all the time...re-tweaking is a MUST!

Well done on getting some gg revenue via msn...excellent work! :)

I wouldnt say that people that use msn are less technically minded infact I wish more peope did. I use both msn and google and Msn more and more these days as it is so much more relevant and the pages you are getting dispalyed are so much fresher and finding new content is so much faster. Googles top 10 is full of directories and spam although ti is good when finding forums etc.

Thats pretty well done if you get No1 for "First time buyer" Google shows a possible of 165,000,000 possible results i think it will take a wee while longer to get N01 on google though

interesting that you say that...i have always found the opposite to be true. Maybe it's time for me to give msn a second chance ;)

Well i've dropped to no.3 now, but i'm quite happy there!

I'm getting a reasonable level of traffic from both Google and MSN for loads of different search phrases, i really need to get round to writing a load more articles now as they really pull in the visitors.

I've just created 11000 static pages (of unique content) from my database, i'm in the process of getting these pages indexed now.

11,000 pages of unique content! wow that must have taken you a while :) how did you write them so fast?

Well i had a directory of estate agents and letting agents details, previously users just searched the database and the script pulled the relevant results. I've now made these results pages static (HTML files) so they can be indexed by the search engines.

Here's one example:

http://www.buyingfirsttime.co.uk/pages/White-Estates-SOUTH-KENSINGTON.html

and heres one of a premium listing:

http://www.buyingfirsttime.co.uk/pages/CTAB-SPALDING.html

So the details are unique in so far as they are all names, addresses and telephone numbers.

It also seems as though the script i've got that generates these pages can be manipulated to work with pretty much any database.

I don't really fancy paying for visitors to this site though!

How have you noticed the increase?

It's a good idea. I have a plumber domain i am thinking of doing something similar with. Your site seems like it's off to a great start. :)
