Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone's going to the Nominet AGM tomorrow? I live just down the road so might head down but am I going to be bored to tears? I see they also have an open meeting for .uk stakeholders, anyone going to this?

Cheers,
Francis

Quite a few are going as far as I now, I wouldn't imagine this one will be boring but you never know.

I'll be there anyway (if they let me in):D

I think they are asking for ID this year, so if people are going down then make sure you all take something official.

Where do I get to read what the government wolly said?

Sorry, was meant to read wallah.

Usual socialists, the only part of the economy that's really still ticking and wants to stop it.

Wish I'd gone.

The webcast of the afternoon session is open for anyone to watch on demand, members can watch the morning AGM as well.

Mr Hendon mentioned domaining near the end of the afternoon open session.

For the fickos I am the "Rob Hey" mentioned on a couple of comments/questions ;)

Attendance was pretty poor, and I was suprised by the lack of questions / comments via the web , I think it was just me / edwin / neylon who interacted.

Likewise on the floor input came from a very small handful of people.

...that's because bugger all knew about it Rob - and that begs the question Rob, did you ever raise the questions you said you would regarding wider i/p to the consultation?

...The term: 'Going Native' comes to mind ;)

Rgs,

Sneezy.

LOL :) The only thing I am native to is wales!

Not directly - but oddly enough that thread did get quoted twice by myself and Greywing on nom-steer , but more to highlight that people on acorn dont give a toss ie. me him and you posting on important stuff :(

As for people not knowing - there was a big thread on vote pledges and I have heard from a few of the candidates lots of stuff but I can only remember Nora and Grace speaking today - and Mr Grace was on the panel :)

Mr. Hendon - sticky wicket?

I think Mr. Hendon might want to plan an 'exit strategy' of some kind (if he hasn't already) - enough said me thinks ;)

I posted several more questions/comments via the web that weren't broadcast. The format was VERY selective.

Yes I had a couple that didnt get through - who was the FOI one?! :)

Questions NOT Answered!!!

I posted several more questions/comments via the web that weren't broadcast. The format was VERY selective.

...I know of one question asked with no reply:

"When will Nominet volunteer to be subject to the Freedom of Information Act?"

...Answer = NO ANSWER from the EXECUTIVE - (laughs from the audience)!!!

'Piss poor' in my view of those paid obscene amounts for a VERY simple job for a simple 'public service'!

...Discusting!

Rgs,

Sneezy.

I was there at the AGM. I was expecting a repeat of 'Rumble in the Jungle' but not even a pie fight. AGM stuff just a formality with only one member bringing up Bonus schemes/LTIP etc.

The afternoon session was alot more interesting though - hearing things from the horses mouth. From what I gathered the jist was - sort it out or we will do it. Reserve powers are planned for upcoming leglislation which can be used for .UK and any future TLDs such as .scot and so on.

David (Invincible) was also there, I am sure he will put his thoughts down.

Mofo - what was the turnout like? It was impossible to see from the webcast how many people were there.

I would say max 50 people in the room including Nom staff, current board, election candidates and the webcast crew. Very very poor indeed.

I think the turnout may have been around 20 members, it was all a bit dissapointing to be honest.

I stayed for the morning session but had to leave shortly after lunch, met some of the board and had a chat with them.

I think Reza was asking some cracking questions and highlighted a few things in the room, I don't know how it came across online.

LOL, that made me laugh!

On another note, it makes you wonder if many actually bothered to watch on line either. All in all, not a good sign of member participation, I'd wager a Whitehall memo was sent this morning to that effect!

It shocked me as well mate, in my view there was little point causing any further issues on the day. There were so little people there that it would have looked like there was just a couple of us (Reza, Mo, plus couple of others and me and us being in the minority to anyone watching) Although Reza asked a question on the bonus scheme and cross examined them into great detail and actually got me a vote from another person because of it.

From looking at the meeting you can see how these people (if my points are true) they get away with it all, it isn't because they are especially smart or devious, it's because no one can be bothered stopping them.

If that place was packed out with 100 people and Hazel, Alex, Steve Enobi (friendly to the board) were in a group of 10 then things would be different. But the truth is that they put the effort in and no matter how much I disagree with them, they turn up and speak to people like David Hendon.

So it's not hard to turn things around at Nominet if people wanted to, but people who are against the board need to put some effort in, I do hate to say it but it's the truth and to be honest it isn't that much effort that is needed.
