Obviously all Nominet domain records are stored in a database of some kind (Oracle, MySQL, etc) and with all databases it's possible to query each column with a SELECT statement, and I presume there's a column for the "Registration Status".

So my question is, is it possible if you are a Nominet member to query the whois database based on just the domains "Registration Status", i.e. I want to search for all domains that are currently detagged? I mean that would save so much time compiling a drop list.

The search that you suggest is not possible, because Tagholder query requests do not include the Status field. Status can only be checked using Whois lookups.
