not dropping?

Generally if a name doesn't drop on it's due date it's because there is an internal nominet process holding it back, so it's generally one of the following:

  1. It's owned by a Ltd company that is in Administration, and as the domain is held to be one of the assets the company itself needs to go through the Administation process before the name is renewed or deleted.
  • The registrant has requested an extension while they renew the name - ie by posting a cheque etc
  • There were extenuating circumstances why it wasn't renewed on time - eg the Registrant or Company owner has died, or the registrar has gone out of business and the Registrant cannot transfer out, so Nom has extended the deletion process until it is sorted out
  • Someone has challenged the Registrant's rights to the name, and the process was not complete before the Registrant allowed the name to expire.

There will be other reasons, but generally they are of the type listed above.

Did the name begin with "N" by any chance?

Regards

Ty

Ah firestars again, wonder what other names there were alongside that and ncfc. Can't wait to start doing what he's doing.

what I said is real now.
WHOIS Query

The problem is here related to Nominet. They must delete the name if there is no legal reason delaying it after due date.

I'm not convinced that there has to be a legal reason. Nominet are, in effect, the law in this regard. They can drop it or hold it as they see fit. Yes, the standard pattern is there for drops, but that is no assurance that it will be adhered to.

Exactly. Ty_ pointed this out recently (post passim). Nominet exercise discretion as they see fit. We all have to live with it. One day Serdinc, you may be thankful for this.
