Hi there guys,

It's been a while since I set up my last online ecommerce solution with osCommerce. Was just wondering what the leading ecommerce solutions out there are these days - either open source or relatively cheap (eg. vBulletin style).

Cheers!

virtuemart on joomla, it is cracking stuff and I'd swear by it, done over £200,000 on it and no problems at all.

This is a very relevant thread to me as I need to setup my first cms for a client today after a meeting yesterday so keep the recommmendations coming....

Needs to be free so was originally going for osCommerce as I know someone who's set up a few over last couple of years and recommended it, but seems there are other choices worth looking at.

Is the free Magento one worth considering as the paid for one is far too much for my client?

Magento is great but you will need a server set up properly for it to be good.
Zen cart is very good too. Its a fork of OSc but is better.

OpenCart.com seems to be getting more solid. UK based OS php5 solution.

For paid solutions there's clickcartpro.com and xcart.

I'd avoid the old spaghetti code carts such as oscommerce (until v3 comes out) and zencart though others like them.

One thing, if you go with an eBay Store or Yahoo Store, it helps with the traffic, as you already have all the eBay users etc.

Rgds
