pagerank if you allowed comments

Here's the story. I got this through the one of my (wp) sites.

Him:
You Know, You might have some pagerank if you allowed comments.
see ya

Me:
good point but then spam shit far outweighs it's worth. Unless you can prove it different.

Him: moderation of comments works for me

End.

So my question is: pagerank, has it a value? has the commenter a point? I really don't want to be editing what could be 100's of trash comments per day (over my site portfolio) for the sake of a few worthwhile ones

Good point however looking at the pricing it would be a cost and tbh I'm not sure if i can justify the monthly spend given the low level returns my sites currently produce.

If there were a case for higher listings in serps then I'd prob opt for it however since we are talking about page rank then my book is still open as to it's overall worth in terms of increased value for the domain /site/revenue generated.

Akismet is free in WP - you just need a free key as I recall.
