Decal, can you tell me if your ebay auction is ACTUALLY genuine or are you planning to back out of going through with the sale ?. The reason I ask is that I believe that you are bidding on your own domain, i.e. POP.co.uk and are currently highest bidder . Correct me if I am wrong of course.

I shall no be backing out of the sale on POP.co.uk and it will be sold to the highest bidder.
I am not bidding on my own domain on ebay, thats for sure but i do understand your concern. I currently own PrePay.co.uk which is also forsale, due to some certain pressing business matters that a few members on here know about. prepaycouk was regisitered by a friend of mine who incase i wanted it. Now i am selling some of my portfolio, he is interested in buying POP.co.uk. Regardless of friendship between myself and the ebay member prepaycouk, i felt it fair to only allow him to bid on the auction along with everyone else. Email address is available for this member is you feel the need to contact him.

I had this helps to clear the matter up but please feel free to ask further questions if needed.

No sorry I do NOT think that is an acceptable explanation. For all intents and purposes from the information available from WHOIS and ebay their is at the VERY LEAST a conflict of interest and a clear appearance of a connivance to increase the sale price.

Lets look at the facts as they appear from WHOIS.

1. The domain POP.co.uk is owned by uwant.co.uk Limited

2. The highest bidder at the moment is
prepaycouk which if you look up on
WHOIS shows as being owned by
uwant.co.uk Limited of

3. uwant.co.uk is registered to "dean" at the above
address

You now state
"I currently own PrePay.co.uk which is also forsale".
In fact prepay is, apparently, owned by unwant.co.uk limited.

You then state;

But the WHOIS states clearly it is owned by uwant.co.uk Limited.

I think it would be fair that you withdraw the highest bid at present but that is between you and ebay.

Bidding up your own domain name is for sure slightly dishonest but at the end of the day if you want the name that is being offered then you will outbid the other bidders. When you go to an auction most go with a fixed sum they're prepared to pay for the item, so you can take it or leave it the choice is yours.

A better solution and a more effective one would have been to set a reserve price on your domain should you not want it to go for less than a fiver, that way if it did'nt sell first time round any future auction would be taken seriously by other parties that might be interested.

My belief, forgive me if I am wrong, is that after listing it the seller has had 2nd thoughts and the only way to recover from that is to bid it up himself (i.e. on behalf of the registered owner of the domain, a limited company) thus negating the need for a reserve.

Let me say DeCal I am not intending causing you grief because I am sure many a person would contemplate doing what I suggest above, but at end of day the owner of the domain made the "mistake" and cannot get out of it by making another mistake.

The seller could simply pull the auction if that is the case.

I have dealt with DeCal many times before and have no reason to doubt what he says. I have already placed a bid, however will be placing a higher one at some point in the future.

If it wins it wins, if it doesnt then the name will either go elsewhere or not be sold.
