Previously registered domains

I am a newbie, and I have some ideas for names which may be useful.

What I want to know is if the names I have picked have been previously used, dropped and not revived. Is there any way to find this info, or do I have to keep saving the dropped name list until I have my own database?

Try this web.archive.org to see if it helps you at all.

You could paste the domain urls in to the box on www.archive.org to see if it has any history of being used previously.

thanks for that - any other ideas?

I have tried that, but the names are insufficiently important to have been picked up by the machine - but if my theory works, I need names that were previously used.

you can always try a search like this in Google and other search engines:

"domain.co.uk"

(with the quotes)

Thanks - that does work for the "recently dead".

To see the recently dead you need a drop list, which many people sell and some give away, then you need to search to see if they was listed on all the major engines.
