Purchase .uk without .co.uk

I've seen an attractive .UK domain on an auction site and I'm currently considering making a sizable bid. I love the fact that it's only 3 digits long but the fact that it's only a .UK sale concerns me.

Do you feel it's foolish to purchase a .UK only domain and build a business on it when the .co.uk domain is unobtainable?

Too much uncertainty surrounding the .uk for me to consider a large amount of money to purchase one without the other. Imagine the traffic leakage to the .co.uk whilst the general consumer doesn't understand .uk without the .co first.

No, because I believe in time .uk will become pre-eminent.

.UK will get there in time but at this current time everyone knows co.uk and that's drummed into people's heads!
