Hello,

I was wondering if placing the word "the" in front of a domain has much impact on a domain's value, if for instance placing "the" in front of the domain name does not have any detrimental effect on the logic or meaning of the name.

For example (not my domains by the way - just used to illustrate the point):

skyisblue.com or .co.uk
theskyisblue.com or .co.uk

I have the .com versions of a domain name with and without "the" prefix. I have seen the .co.uk version is not available but it is with a "the" prefix.

Any thoughts anyone?

I suppose it depends on what word you're prefixing 'the' with.

Well I have thewest.co.uk and haven't been able to sell it at all, or ever received one offer for it. Imagine if it was west.co.uk though....

Some names work and some don't, if you naturally say "the", like recently I nearly loaded bikecompany.co.uk*, but decided you would need to own THEbikecompany.co.uk along with bikecompany.co.uk as the looked better.

With the above example, I'd bet money people say "have you seen this bike at the bike company.co.uk".

So sometimes it works others it doesnt.

* I haven't checked if anyone took bikecompany :)
