118 12962 ??

find the missing number, or explain the sequence

should be easy for many Acorn members (no maths required)

I'd guess these are internet addresses - but I've forgotten how to try them!

Not really too 'mathsy' so:

26^3 = 17576 = number of 3 chars/numbers domains allowable in ASCII

48 to 57 (numeric 0-9)

65 to 90 (alpha A-Z)

Not the answer though, but is it a step in the right direction?

I'll start with the clue: 17576
= alphabet split into 5 rows
A
BCDEFGH
IJKLM
NOPQRST
UVWXYZ

17576 = 26 is a fascinating coincidence, but not employed in this teaser

a reward makes things more interesting,

so same as last time, first correct answer posted here before midnight gets £10 (Paypal gift)

£2 less per subsequent day, still worth £2 on Monday.
