Q1 Market Study - Sedo.

I don't think they throw out "outlier" values in compiling their report, so one big sale (none in Q1) can raise the average substantially. And as already pointed out, if the total number of names sold rises, the average will tend to fall.

What is it about .de that can't be translated into .co.uk activity? Just education?

Sedo is a german company so it is their local market.

As Stephen says, it is overly simplified and lacking real figures so not that useful.

Lots of pretty graphs though so would look good on a snoozefestpowerpointforexecswithposhpenzzzz etc.

A median value would be best. The higher sales do spike an average calculation.

If high value sales are not occurring, that would still be an indication of a depressed market.

Sedo's report would take into account non-disclosed sales?

I did some analysis of their May sales here

Average sales value was £819

Thanks. Would also be improved with a graph for percentile sales. That way it's easy to see the number of sales in a percentile relative to the top/bottom ends. It gives a better indication of the frequency of sales at certain value points and whether top/bottom end sales are skewing the median.

Guess my old stats A'level is still having an effect. There's nothing worse than reading a media report showing a 'trend' thats only there because they've used axis that skew the data to show something that's not there.
