Quick question re: buying a domain

Hi there

I bought a .me.uk domain on here a short while back, for £100, and am now wanting to sort out getting the registrant details changed.

I have been sent a link to Nominet by the seller where it appears I've got to pay a further £11.75.

My question is... who should be footing this bill? The buyer or the seller? It wasn't specified in the thread... it was just stated that the domain was for sale for £100 (which I have already paid).

I write it off as a cost of doing biz, some people cover the cost for you some dont.

Some on here get arsey if you ask them, usually the ones who then price names stupidly high then say £10,000 'buyer pays xfer fee' etc

Pay it, move on and remember to ask next time - or tell them

Be wary of 'understanding' on acorn, there are people on here who cant understand their own written terms be it VAT / prices / auctions or invoices

Very true mate, I've had a few strange ones in my time. But luckily not from acorn.

In the case of this domain, the seller happens to be someone I know from way back anyway, so I'm happy to oblige. In fact, I did about £100 worth of work for him about 10 years ago, so it's all swings and roundabouts. I'm very happy to pay the fee - I just wanted to check it was the usual protocol.

Plus I'm now the proud owner of http://www.paul.me.uk so I can't complain with that.

There's been one or two instances recently that I have offered to buy domains from 'newish' members on here and then they spit blood at having to pay the nom fee - and it's only those that don't stipulate the terms in their sales thread (they think you are trying to do them over and being newbees prob don't even realise someone has to pay)

Anyone selling on here should say if nom fee is to be payed by buyer.
If they don't say then it's included in the price in my book.

e.g

reallygreatfantasticdomain.co.uk £75

reallygreatfantasticdomain.co.uk £75 + nominet fee

Simples innit?

Usually it is accepted that the buyer will pay, however I always state that the buyer pays

IMO the buyer pays the transfer fee. I have never bought any domains on here and expected the seller to pay the transfer fee.

I'm very happy to pay the fee - I just wanted to check it was the usual protocol.

Definitely the norm in my book; the £100 is for the domain and goes to the seller, the £11.75 transfer fee goes to Nominet and is nothing to do with the seller unless they've specifically said they'll pay it.

Plus I'm now the proud owner of http://www.paul.me.uk so I can't complain with that.

Sorry, but I disagree with the second sentence here.

By far the best is for the seller to state 'buyer pays Nom' or similar - BUT, if it is silent, most people here would expect the unwritten assumption to be that the buyer is to pay.

People 'selling' domains for £5 or so would be in trouble otherwise!!

Well there you have it, another unwritten assumption sorry but I disagree especially as you are speaking on behalf of ' most people' how do you know what they think, have you asked them all?

Thanks, guys... I didn't think it was a bad purchase, particularly in the light of it being my name.

And the consensus of opinion in this thread seems to be that the buyer pays (but maybe that's because most ppl here are sellers ) even if it's not stated so I'm happy to go along with that. I just wasn't sure what the norm was as I'm more into affiliate marketing than domaining...
