I keep a list of "possibles" i.e. .co.uk domains that are not yet registered, but which I just might want someday. They're not good enough to compel me to rush off and register them all, but they bear revisiting (and usually I end up registering half a dozen or so each time I look at the list)

Anyway, about every 6 months I check the entire list for updates. This pass has seen the most takeup yet - of the 1,500+ domains on my "maybe" list, over 25% have ended up being registered in the last 6 months... looks like registrants are going further and further in their quest for names that have any value.

I think that the introduction of the DAC has raised the profile of both dropping and "available to register" names with Nominet members.

While the ability to search for available dictionary word domain names was always there (albeit very slow) it's now so quick/easy that a lot of people are doing it.

This, I think, will have contributed to the speed of the takeup that you have observed.
