Echoing other recent threads about 1&1.

I initiated a Registrant transfer to the buyer at SCHLUND (1and1). Tried 3 times, all failed even when I TAG changed it to SCHLUND beforehand.

Buyer has given up and walked. Money in Escrow will be refunded. Really pissed as I've done everything on my part to facilitate clear title to buyer.

If you've got the time I'd report it to Nominet. I spoke to them last time I had a 1&1 transfer issue and they said that they've already been having meetings with 1&1 regarding their uselessness!

Won't save your sale obviously but the more they get slapped wrists the more likely they are to sort their mess of a system out!

Thank Grant. It's been run by Nominet. From their support personal they don't seem to have a grasp on it nor do I think they give a care.

Only I think you could try is set up your own account at 1and1.

Instigate a transfer in from the control panel at 1and1 so there expecting it (so accept the handshake)
Then log into nominet and release it to them.
Once its on there TAG then ask the customer will they try one more time to do the transfer.

Thanks. At one point it was on the SCHLUND TAG (via TAG change request my end). Not sure if having an account with them would have made much difference?

Probably wouldn't have then I'm amazed these guys stay in business.
Can you reach out to your customer and convince them to move it to Domainmonster or somebody assuring them even if there hosting with 1&1 it will still work fine.

Me too.

The buyer I think is using this incident to backtrack out of the deal. I've explained we can work through this and use another Registrar.

Why the hell Escrow.com offer an inspection period (merchandise) on domains doesn't make sense to me. If you agreed to the terms to purchase changing ones mind doesn't cut it.

My recent experience amounted to 4 failed transfers. The domain being in the buyers 1&1 control panel with his email address as the admin contact meaning I had no control whatsoever.

Nominet tried to intervene and failed. 1&1 kept coming out with various daft reasons why the registrant details had not been updated and blamed Nominet.

ie: "Thank you for contacting us.

The Registrant contact details still show as the company name: ******* *****. For the business name, you will need to contact Nominet directly to change it to something else. As far as the domain transfer is concerned, everything has been completed. If Nominet requires information from us, have them send an e-mail to you and you can then forward it to us.
"

It went back and forth and even now the transfer is incomplete.

The sale was agreed with Sedo on 5th February and initial transfer was initiated on 13th February.

To add to the incompetence, Sedo informed me on Friday that the transfer had completed and released funds. The domain is still registered to me !

Crazy.

What bugs me is that the buyer won't consider another Registrar or change the Registrant while leaving it on my TAG then I make the TAG change to SCHLUND afterwards.

I've always asked the buyers to leave our TAG when doing the transfer and then release the domain to SCHLUND. Just completed one today and the buyer agreed after the second attempt at transfer failed. They apparently do not accept the tag change if the registrant name doesn't match the account. Well that's what I was told by one of the buyers.

If you've not already done so, pointing the people you've been talking to at Nominet to this thread gives them a few more data points to work from...
