I would be interested to know if you sent a letter to (say) 30 x cider manufacturers/online retailers before the auction to let them know.
Absolutely nothing stopping anyone (including multiple entities) active in the cider industry bidding on whatever keyword (presume "cider") cider.co.uk is displaying result links for. A great way for the registrant to earn from use of the domain name and another great way for multiple interested parties to gain traffic from the domain name without any one entity sequestering its use entirely for themselves. Targetted landing pages are useful.
I'm after two owned domains, have offered fair money, but unfortunately the owners are notorious for expecting too much so won't let go; such a shame, I could make decent sites from them.
I auctioned this domain as a little test to see whether I'll ever use a Sedo .co.uk auction again.
You can probably guess the answer.
So why bother completing on it? Sedo obviously wouldn't have done anything about it if you didn't.

Is "because I have some personal integrity" an acceptable answer?
I wouldn't dream of entering into a contract and then not honouring it.
Sorry.

plus let's face it, you had a reserve which was met, so ultimately got what you wanted
I'm sure that's true. I'm in the same boat as those owners though. I have coupons.co.uk and coupon.co.uk. I've been offered quite a lot of money for them, but have always held out because I've (perhaps naively) felt that as a pair they are worth more.

Interestingly, people have mentioned .uk eligibility. As far as I'm aware, as long as the domain is in the new person's hand by the required date then they get this automatically, so I didn't feel the need to mention it. A few people did contact me though, both via email and on Twitter, to double check, and I was happy to put them straight.
Good for you. Really is depressing to read some of the stuff about business practices on here.Is "because I have some personal integrity" an acceptable answer?
