Should I invest in a used domain with backlinks?

I'm keen to start a service within a specific niche, most of the traffic will be from search engines. As the typical user of the service will probably use Google search rather than other digital channels.

This is a long term project, therefore I don't want to take any shortcuts. However I do have a limited amount of budget, and I thought that buying a used domain with a healthy backlink profile, could save me some time&money in the beginning, as I don't need to start from scratch in terms of domain authority, age etc.

I have not tried this strategy before, and I was wondering if this could work?

Yes this can work, I'd say 2 things:

1. Don't compromise on domain choice in order to do this
2. Be certain you are qualified enough to assess the domain/site SEO credentials and backlink profile
