I just found this and thought it was pretty useful.

I used to use Irfanview to change my jpgs to ico files but this is much simpler and quicker.

Just upload your image and then download a favicon version.

Sorry if it's old news to some of you, but I was chuffed when I found it lol.

What's the standard size I should use? I've tried both 16 and 32 on a site I'm working on and I just can't get it to work!

This is how I use it.

I created an image in a paint program (200px*200px) and saved it as a jpg to my desktop.

Go the favicon site

1. click 'choose file' and find the image you created. I left the size at 32x32

2. click 'generate favicon'

3. right click and 'save link as' on 'download your favicon here'

4. save it to your desktop, file will be called favicon.ico - don't change the filename

5. Use a FTP program to upload the 'favicon.ico' file to your web server, put in the same folder as your index.html file.

You might need to refresh/restart your browser to see the new favicon appear.

here's what I drew and you can see the favicon at my ice cream recipe site
