Site architecture

It doesn't matter, don't sweat the small stuff. Just get on and build your site.

I normally use:

sitename.com/my-keyphrase-here.htm

If you have to use categories, then ok use:

sitename.com/category/my-keyphrase-here.htm

Dash separation of words is better than underscore separation I believe.

Yeah - it's all semantics. In this case there is no mention of .html extension so I guess it's a wordpress site or similar.

I'd go the same as accelerator but my point is to just get on with the job. Worrying about this kind of stuff will just get you into a spiral of inaction.

^ I disagree if you decide to change it later then there is a lot more work involved. Planning before you start a website will always save you time in the long run

Exactly what are you going to change later? The way the url's are presented?

In this instance how the url's are presented is going to make such a little difference.

It's just not worth worrying about.

Actually the way urls are presented can have a difference to seo. So by undertaking some keyword research before you start building is always the best way.

Absolutely, I disagree

Keyword research is not the point.

The point is are we going to make a difference by naming our sub directory files in a certain way and I say it's a waste of time.

Concentrate on content and building a proper site. The way you name your files would have made a difference in 2005 but not now.

I'd have to agree with bensd... Forward thinking and solid planning will help in the long run... If you lay the correct foundations it will be far easier to build on them in the future.
