Sold domain over a year ago. However, it is still in my Nominet account.

The registrar marketplace escrow service told me this must be an error with Nominet. They are .com icann registrar but use another service for the .uk namespace (1api.net) .

Do I have full control over the domain? Or would they need to manually approve changes eg. move registrar.

I asked if I should cancel the domain on Nominet and they said yes......

I will contact the buyer to transfer. But wanted to know if I would actually be able to cancel the domain.

Thanks.

Hi!

I believe it’s because the Admin / Registrant email address is probably still showing as yours.

Nominet identify owners of domains by email address (regardless of any other details such as name and address) as the email address allows control of the name.

I’m guessing the .com registrar you’re talking about is Epik? I had this issue before and it was a bit of a mission for them to understand. And 1API are not a great help either.

Nominet have a list of approved registrars. What this means is, if the email address is changed at an approved registrar, it will automatically update the details on the Nominet servers.

However, for a registrar like Epik, even though they use 1API, when you change administrative details in your Epik dashboard, it’s a separate server which doesn’t actually connect to 1API. If the domain was at 1API directly this wouldn’t be a problem.

To get around this, if you change the registrant email address in your Nominet account, the new owner should then be able to import the name to their own Nominet account.

Cancelling the domain in your Nominet account may actually cancel it completely.

Nominet customer services are pretty good if you wanted to check with them.
