I hate to impose but could anyone help with these questions? I have searched but can't find up to date answers with my smartphones limitations.

1. I read somewhere that some domain search engines can steal your ideas, reging any good domains you find, or farming the data to big regcompanies.
Is this just paranoid scare-mongery or really an issue?

2. where's the fastest domain search engine?(I'm on smartphone a lot.)

3. What would a nonsensicle 3 letter .me be worth?

Any help is much appreciated.
Dave

1. I've never heard of it happening at the big reg level, and I've got quite a few contacts at the big UK names and a couple of US names too.

2. http://www.360namefinder.com has a smartphone optimised search.

3. Don't know, someone here will be able to give you a better idea. Depends on whether it's likely to be someone's initials or not I guess (e.g. not 'qqz' or something).

Thanks blossom, that's good to know.:)

The mobile search looked the part and was really quick, but:( only worked a couple of times before it said every domain was registered fully, no matter how ridiculous (I was sad to learn that earbiscuit85 was fully taken ).

Thanks anyway. Anymore suggestions anyone?

there are far too many smilies in this message:roll:

Strange, what phone have you got?

1. This used to happen with some registrars, particularly with gTLDs, e.g. .com – not aware of it happening with .co.uk. *NetSol and I think Enom were doing it at one stage (.com), don't think they do now but don't quote me on it.

2. Not sure, I always use whois-search.com

3. It terms of resale value, no value.

* NetSol would instantly register any .com search queries and then try and sell it on their sales platform. If no interest, they would eventually delete it.

Blossom. It's a Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1. But good news, I tried again tonight and all was fine, no matter how hard I tried to make it go wrong. Fast search and fast site to load. Very usefull.
Guess my phone must have had issues today?
Thanks again.

Nasty beggers!
Thanks for taking time to help Rob, I'll check out whois-search.

I discovered how to search sedo for 3 letter .me's and can see what you mean about no value (for the vast majority).

Cheers. Dave.

As has been said, there have been problems with companies like NetSol.

Since these issues, I always look up .co.uk first at Nominet then reg somewhere.

For .com I use internic.com to check first, then reg somewhere.

A select few .me are quite valuable, e.g. call.me, but be careful with other .me's.
