Soundbars any good?

Thinking of getting a soundbar, anyone bought one and what do yu have to spend to get something worth having?

Any recommendations?

was looking at soundbars myself but opted for a Phillips surround soundsystem in the end. brill sound.only thing I may have done is gone 4 a wireless system. overall its like being at the cinema.

That's the first time I've heard of soundbars, are these a new thing?

Systreg, i only know of them as a couple of people i know got them and swear by them, can also sync ipod/phone with them etc to play music

Hey Rob,

I hope all is well and life is treating you well buddy.

I have two soundbars and wireless subs, Sony and Sonos.... Both are equally good, however, i like the Sonos more as it connects beautifully to my Play5's, and to be honest I'm a huge Sonos fan

If you want the daddy of soundbars though go for BOSE, I would have gone for one myself but liked the fact the sonos connected to the play5's etc.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the sound quality and wireless base boxes.

Thanks Foz i will have a look, want to get one for a present and one for myself but not sure i want to go too mad on price if there isn't much to choose between them

Thanks, DeluxeDomains and Pugyrob, I don't have any music players so that's probably why I've never heard of them, and it's not something I'd search for, I only listen to radio very occassionally on the computer, I thought I might have seen a domain related to them, though.

Bought a LG NB 2020 (59.95 Ex Argos stock, usually 129.95) - Spent an age trying to sync it via optical - Netflix different from Sky - you'll forever be fiddling with the settings to get good lip sync.

That's the downside: sound much improved. Better base, obvs

Thanks All, it seems more people have these than i thought! They range so much in price too. I will probably opt for something middle of the range.

We have the Orbitsound T12 and it really does enhance the sound quite a lot, though I wouldn't go as far as to say it's 100% "surround". But then it relies (like most/all soundbars, I think) on bouncing the sound waves off the end walls, and the room it's in is very long and narrow.

Im a big fan of my Sonos sound bar.
Not cheap though and does become an addiction. Ive even bought a play 1 for the bathroom!

I bought a Samsung one last year for a couple of hundred quid. Massive improvement on the tinny sound you get from the tv speakers

One thing to watch out for, make sure it has enough hdmi inputs for the sound to pass through. Most only have 1, 2 if you're lucky, which is fine if all you have is sky & a blu ray player, but if you want to hook anything else up, you'll struggle.

I have B&W Panorama 2 Also in the bathroom over 4 meters away from splash zone rcbo covered (can’t stream it , remote is a bit of a pain, surround effects pretty unrealistic and Monitor Audio ASB-2 its better easier to use but even that the surround effects are not really a patch on a half the price full 5.1 surround sound hard wired system.

Would second the Es auctions have had some good buys with them but for those unfamiliar remember take in to account 20% vat + 15 % buyers premium added to final price in most of there auctions

I assumed this ran on batteries but it doesn't. You have something operating at 230V in your *bathroom*?

Yes, But I have a large bathroom. The chance of getting water on it is practically nill and they are humidity resistant for this purpose.
So really not an issue.
