If something goes into status of 7, does the 3 month drop process start immediately, or does it wait until the expiry date is reached?

The nominet site states the latter, but various messages on here recently imply that they drop before that.

cheers,

steve

How does it work that some names (ie. dtj//co//uk) drop before their given date?

When I checked recently, dtj was Reg: 1997-06-06, Exp: 2011-06-06 (status = 2)
Then it dropped yesterday, so now has dates of 2009-07-22 and 2011-07-22

Can that only happen when the domain is actually flagged as CANCEL, and it will then drop at some point between drop and midnight?
