Perhaps someone at Nominet can release them?

Why would Nominet do that?

Drop cycle process, fault in the system.

Do you somehow think there aren't individual reasons for Nominet not cancelling these domain names?

Nope, fault in the drop process.

My suggestion, if you are really interested in finding out why these domain names have not been cancelled, is for you to contact Nominet directly and ask why.

Not that interested. Most wouldn't touch or bother with. Just curious if their is a fault in the drop system, or that, if Nominet does override policy at their discretion.

BTW plantfeed.co.uk dropped.

Nominet will consider intervening in the drop process if a legitiate request has merit. There have been numerous examples of this in the past, and most of the more interesting names that have been subject to an extended hold have moved, upon close inspection, to other sister companies, liquidation acquirers, etc, etc.

If, for example, you sent them a letter to the effect that you'd purchased the IP rights of a business going bust (including the domain name), of course they are going to take notice of this. Just because you can't see the reason for it now, doesn't mean there isn't one.

If you could prove Nominet were intervening unfairly, now that would be a different matter, but you'd have to prove it!

I think this is beyond's Nominet mandate. If the license (domain renewal) hasn't been paid it should be allowed unimpeded through the drop cycle process. Who are these people in Nominet that "step in" and where is it stated in policy that this can be actioned?

Bankruptcies, liquidations, forgot to renew my domain. It should all go through the drop process. DRS can pick up the pieces, if need be.

Do you think that works? If you only knew.

A DRS is what the expert wants you to see, because you seldom get to see the real paperwork behind it. ;)
