Scam Stolen names

I detailed in an earlier thread how i had 17 domains stolen from my godaddy account on friday. They paid me, I transferred the names. They then contacted paypal, said they didn't buy anything, and had the money refunded. I was screwed, and the names are being sold on ebay under various auctions. Godaddy have said to me that they will not let someone transfer those names from him, but people are still going to end up losing their money by buying them from him.
Other people have posted that they have had names stolen in the same way, and their names are also for sale in the same auction. If you google gothfeet.com or gayline.tv you will see the auctios on ebay. Some of his auctions of my names end 4 hours from this posting. This man is scum, so I would appreciate any help offered in punishing him, and getting my names back. He goes under various names, [email protected] gmdomain amongs many others. The names are regged on the whois as kam, katie in florida.

Personally I'd be doing everything I could to disrupt his auctions and stop him selling the domains on.

I think this is a good advert for using bank transfers instead of pay(pal!) for transfers in the hope of having better guarantees in case of this type of dispute.

This guy/gal stole 426.info last month. Made fradulent payment and i had already transfered the domain by the time the payment was reversed.

Take Paypal to court,

There is enough evidence to suggest that this person had commited this crime over and over again with Paypal being negligent in not tightening up it's processes.

In my view a trip to court against them might wake them up to it.

One reason I never get involved in .com's unless I really have to, that is a war zone.

I would be wary of taking paypal to court, as they state that intantigle goods and services are not protected under the sellers guarantee.

If only I knew of this scam before, I will only sell to trusted buyers or through a broker from now on.

Yes mate but if you can show they have been negligent (past scams by the same guy) then you stand a good chance.

If you take them to court for under 5K, you don't need to pay their costs if you lose.

It's tricky, but as a last resort may be worth a try.

Use a credit card with PayPal for domains. You can get the CC company to fight your case then, and instigate an immediate refund. And PayPal HATE CC chargebacks.

I put a comlaint in with paypal as I hadn't received a book via ebay and they've just replied saying that they found me and favour but couldn't give me back my money as the person I paid had no money in their account.

haha, so much for their protection. I will start a credit card charge back, I'm sure the credit cards must get sick of paypal eventually!

Paypal are a nightmare and offer no protection for the selling. A friend of mine a few years back was selling a £1k sat nav system. The buyer paid via paypal and then asked if he could collect as he was localish; seeing no problem in this he agreed and the buyer came to collect. A few hours later the money was removed from my friends paypal account because the buyer claimed he never bought! Paypal offers no protection and wouldn't accept any payment via them, use bank transfer!

Use a bleedin' credit card and then compalin to your CC company.

UK Credit Card companies can be a-holes about chargebacks/complaints. (From experience).
US Companies slightly better.

However, just say Consumer Credit Act - Credit Card company equally liable. Court.
Then that soon sorts things round.

Surely the answer is simple?

You make sure you're the highest bidder in all of the auctions, pay by paypal, & then once transferred to you you initiate a chargeback


Of course the sneaky git will probably remove all money from his paypal account first - or maybe not if he does this regularly..


Then leave him negative feedback.

dashu, i think you have the wrong end of the stick. i was the seller, the victim.

Basically i wanted advice on how to recover my names and get the perpetrator of this theft arrested or punished.

Regardless of the quality, value or cost of the names I am thoroughly pissed off. I want to get back my property and make sure he never does the same to anyone else.

I spent time choosing, buying, advertising and selling my names. Therefore take this whole thing personally, maybe a bit too personally.

Thanks for everyone writing with their tips on what to do in the future, I guess the solution is simple. Be careful who you do business with, where and by what method.

I know you were the victim, I think perhaps you got the wrong end of the stick.

What I'm saying is give him a taste of his own medicine - register an ebay account, make sure you're the highest bidder, pay by paypal, wait until he's transferred the names to you & then claim your money back from paypal.

Then leave him negative feedback too.

Don't forget though that if receiving funds by Paypal, you should always withdraw them to your bank first, and if possible, wait until they arrive in your bank; as far as I'm concerned, money in a Paypal account isn't yours until it's in your bank, as Paypal do things like this all the time, there is, and has never been any protection as a seller!
