Lethal gas may have to be stored under villages, says adviser - Times Online

You got to read it to believe it, an advisor to the government suggesting the UK stores carbon dioxide underground and that there's a possibility of leaks when buried under towns and villages which could kill people... his suggestion?

Don't sleep on the ground floor of an house and put in a warning system, then points to another country where natural deposits have seen warning systems put in place. I admire the audacity of the man but he is clearly very stupid.

If he was any kind of scientist he would be finding a way to compress carbon dioxide into the carbonates in a much quicker way instead of storing and allowing a natural process which could escape and kill thousands, maybe millions if carbon dioxide was stored all over for decades and managed to escape in one go.

I have often wondered why we are not investing in ways to break it down, separate the carbon from the oxygen.

Carbon is a solid item isn't it ? Maybe work on some kind of carbon based ink for printers, I don't know.

I don't know how hard it to break down, but if we can store it in containers surely we can process it ?

easy....

if (planted trees - chop down trees) - fossil fuels used > 0
then
CO2--

or/

shotgun + cartridge + itchy trigger finger = 1 less stupid scientist + grant money!

sorry, programming all day!

Don't have a party at your house and have your friends stay over on the living room floor....

So carbon dioxide is a "lethal gas"?

What's the next headline?
Deadly torrent runs through the centre of London?
Hundreds die as fatal buildings collapse during earthquake?

The trouble is that people are seeking ways of "doing what they can" with existing technology, instead of looking for ways to provide a permanent solution.

See if I care, I'll probably be dead by the time it really matters ...
