Tablet computers are attracting a lot of attention at the moment. They have just been added to the basket of goods used by the Office for National Statistics to calculate inflation rates. Meanwhile there is already huge demand for the new Apple iPad, despite only being announced last week.

The cynic in me makes me think that the ONS are extremely happy to leap at the chance to add anything to the calculation that is guaranteed to drop in price over the next few years (massages "inflation" downwards). Of course tablet computers have their place, but they're only in a small minority of households despite the growth spurt in the market...
