I'm not sure whether this post is going to come across as profound or pretentious or both or neither ... but what the hell ...
1. Thank you all for what you have contributed to the debate about the Nominet consultation exercise over the last few months. Yes, I know it isn't over, but today is definitely worthy of note.
2. Thank you to those of you who have really driven this : I am unashamedly going to single out Stephen and Edwin and could easily add several more. I would happily nominate the pair of you for a joint award at the next Traffic event or DNJ poll
3. Thank you all ... and those at Nominet ... for sadly but honestly making me more cynical and embittered : I used to believe in cock-up theory far more than conspiracy theory, but now I have changed ... and that is not something that makes me happy or proud :-(
4. Building on that, thank you all, through the consultation exercise and other concurrent activities, for helping me to understand more about the corporate governance and governmental governance around a critical part of the UK's economic and technological infrastructure.
5. Thank you all for helping me to improve my understanding and interpretation so fundamentally : with hindsight, my starting point was superficial, shallow, selfish and naive. Also, who on earth would have thought that the rational deep answer to the soundbite question "Would you like websites to be more secure with shorter addresses ?" would actually be "no" ? It's scary.
6. Thank you all for hanging in there through the debate as a coherent community of UK domainers, despite massive differences of opinion and differing personality types : wouldn't it be great if this, coupled with the de facto Nomensa recognition of the UK domaining/aftermarket community throughout its report, could provide the foundation for a truly positive, professional angle to UK domaining moving forward ?
OK, I'm rambling. Anyway, please re-read my opening sentence before you hit the reply button
David
