The Companies Act 2006 Legislation has come into force in January 2007, requiring all companies in the UK to include certain regulatory information on their website and in e-mail correspondence to avoid being in breach of the Act.

The new requirements include:

"Every company must list its company registration number, place of registration and registered office address on its website as a result of an update to the legislation of 1985. The information, which must be in legible characters, should also appear on order forms and in emails. Such information is already required on 'business letters' but the duty is being extended to websites, order forms and electronic documents."

Rightly or wrongly trading standards seem to have interpreted this and other regulations to mean that you must provide your name/address if you are providing any type of service. Individual, sole trader, ltd company etc etc makes no difference to them................

Hi Grant I spoke to my local business chamber and
its only ltd companys that have business registered at companys house
it does not include soletraders or some others
company registration numbers must be applied place of registration and registered office address on its website .

Hope this clarififies this for you

Ps under the data protection act
it would be illegal for them to enforce this onto a soletrader or person who has websites.

its ltd companys only

main reason is so that if your company owns taxman or goes into recievership they will claw the names to pay of debt or give lawyers the right to go after you and your business.
I would suggest anyone who has address overseas to change it to that as would be outside the UK law
