People talk about conspiracy theories and what not, but if shiznit like this doesn't prove the people at the top are absolutely mental I don't think anything does.

Thanks for link Scooter, the Yanks are tw#ts for all things nuclear and then have the cheek to try and tell other countries not to experiment with nuclear stuff.

The Yanks are 1st and only country to use weapons of mass destruction !

I have always been fascinated with the Chenobyl disaster and would love one day to go on a tour of Pripyat the city which was evacuted 2 days after the explosion.

Well unbeknown to them they did, with massive radiation clouds drifting right across the United States.

For me, growing up under a constant threat of nuclear war, its very appropriate they referred to the deterrence plan as 'mutually assured destruction'..or MAD for short. It really was mad.

By the above I do not mean i am in favour of Iran or North Korea developing nuclear capabilities.

I wonder who is going to be the lucky area in the UK that gets to keep all our nuclear sludge,"safe" for the next 10,000 years?

I'm sure there is no possibility with any of it reaching the water basin within this time. I have faith in my government that they will take all possible scenarios into consideration.

The best stories are the guys who should have pulled the trigger and started world war 3 if they had followed their countries rules.

The Russian guy in the 80's who should have followed the rules and fired nukes, but he thought it was a malfunction on his screen or a satelite launch in Sweden.... He never pulled the trigger, he was sacked and never worked in that job again.

There was a American who should have done the same, Bill Clinton lost his security cards with the nuke key and didn't tell anyone for 3-4 months.

There are some cracking stories

Spot on, Greywing. That happened during Able Archer, the massive NATO exercise. In my opinion that Russian guy should have been knighted. He ignored multiple warnings. It would have been a grave situation as it was, but with tens of thousands of NATO troops massing on the Soviet borders, it must have looked even worse.

I think his cool level-headed thinking basically saved the world.
