Difficult question here, but lets get it out there.

when creating a mini site, what is the time scale you work by? For example, who long do you aim to start making money from the site? do you give yourself an aim of unique hits?

recently put up ipodapps.co.uk and trying to figure out a time scale to work from, or indeed, if there is a time scale to work. Maybe its a case of just going and seeing what happen, or maybe its good to set aims.

Either way, discuss :D

Personally I dont set timescales, a true minisites should take very little effort after setup imo.

I set out with a plan for the site:
1. Design and publish the bugger.
2a. Throw up links to site
2b. Get indexed in Google and Yahoo ASAP
3. Sit and wait a few months for stats.
4. Edit little bits to maximise your goal
5. Have a free drink at my local

Basically I dont really care about UI's for months and months. Whats more important for me is the UI / Ad click % and that the UI's are stabilising. After this point you can gauge your efforts from a good starting point.

Unlike others that rush rush rush, domaining for me is a fun free game. I earn my income else where knowing im not going to retire from domains. I enjoy designing the backend of sites and any income above cost helps pay for real life.

Goals and Aims are good but know who pays your bills.

Best way to do mini sites, make changes or add content. Sit back watch what happens and then make changes or additions to point it in the direction you want it to go!

very good advice thanks :D

I dont depend on this for income at all, but if its going to earn a wee bit of extra cash, be a it a free night out or a small spending spree, works for me!

Its nice to see that people just do this kinda thing on the side and it works for them.

It depends on what you start with.

If you have a great domain name with loads of type in's then you are going to see results as soon as you put up your site.

If you start with just a regular domain name and nothing else then it's going to take much longer.
