hi all,

Can anyone help me understand.

am i right in thinking?

traffic = people visiting your site???

overture = people searching for a term???

ranking = links on your site relating to that search term???

bit confused, trying to get my head it all.

i searched "cheap ski holidays" in google, thinking www.cheapskiholidays.com may come as ranked number 1. but it never.

i then typed it into the address bar. the page came up and it nothing to do with ski holidays.

am i right it wasnt ranked because it nothing to do with skiing holidays?

And if it had metioned the orginal search term "cheap or/and ski or/and holidays" once it may have been ranked?

any help would be great.

many thanks

if anyone could crack the google code then they'd be rich. The name alone isn;t enough its mainly a matter of traffic and links to your site, though content and relevance also play a part

your definitions are near enough correct though

CheapSkiHolidays.com just shows the hosting company's parking page, so the SE will ignore it.

traffic = people visiting your site???
Yes, measured by the number of unique hits per day (a unique hit is an individual IP address used to identify a single site visitor to your site).

overture = people searching for a term???
Yes, Overture shows search terms and can be used to guage how often a site is looked up.

ranking = links on your site relating to that search term???
How well your site is thought of by the Search Engines

hi,

is overture people typing the domain into the address bar or seaching the domain?

on a different thread it read

ebay.co.uk overture of 559,258

so is that typing the domain into the address bar? or search on a search engine?

many thanks

bjk

Almost certainly typing it into the search engine and searching for it,otherwise it would not register on overture.
