Wanted: Domain Trying to get hold of a domain owner

I'm trying to get hold of a domain. It's a co.uk and is owned by "Oscar Harry". Reg'd with LCN, but they won't contact him on my behalf, neither will nominet!

Anybody heard of this guy?

No, sorry. There are thirteen domain names registered to this Registrant, all with WHOIS opt out set to yes, at LCN so I cannot help you. It's been known for people to file DRS' to attempt to get the attention of Registrants configured like this, although it might make them irate and I am not advocating doing this.

Have you checked if any of the 13 have sites on them eg a contact us page or about us or any other clues? If parked then parking co may pass on contact

If parked and opted out of whois, you can claim he's making money off the names and get nominet to show whois.

You could but if he wants to buy the domain from him, it might not be the best start to negotiations

One of my partners who only buys never sells, never parks, never does much of anything but shell out, recently has had some notifictions of data requests from nominet, telling him they have released his data after a formal request from X, Y company.

Who can do this ? As i gather none of the names he mentioned as none-generic trademarks but then he only mentioned it in passing, next time i speak to him i'll ask him for all the names.

Back to the point can anyone do these requests ?

My partner (well regular client) got back to me and said a TM Comany (like sony, canon, etc type corp) and Solicitors are the 2 types of people who are listed as Y. He has asked me not to mention the actual domains or companies as he's sure its not going to be good and doesnt want to taint it, so he didnt include any names but did include a copy of the email. I vaguely (well pretty sure) recall the name he mentioned when he asked me about this email, and it was a standard 2 word generic. Anyway at the time I told him it sounded like the start or a DRS which is the uk version of a UDRP and that was the end of it.

He tells me one of the domains was one he bought thru me, and I have def not bought him any out and out TMs, unless its a single word generic which almost of them have like 294 TMs applied to them.

This is the email minus his address.

Funny thing, the Data Protection Act. I didn't realise there was a 1998 version until I saw the post above - but I haven't needed to know about Data Protection for around 20 years.

It used to be obligatory for a body with a database to release info to anyone with a legitimate reason for needing it, if you wrote a proper letter and sent it by Snail Mail.
So you could write to DVLA and get the details of a car from the registration number, etc. - if you could do that, it follows that Nominet would be obliged to release info in an analagous situation. But it makes you think, what other info "about you" could be released to a total stranger for the cost of writing a letter?

Well first port of call was registrar, and they said they don't get involved in situations such as these...passed me to nominet. Funny i know 123-reg does, as i've sold a domain in past by 123 reg contacting me with interester part email contact. LCN don't though.
Phoned Nominet, no they won't pass on my details to domain owner.
Anyway, i have a good idea who he is now due to the other names listed under his name. Don't think he will want to sell on a name to a potential competitor so dead end :/

Regarding the DPA, you can register online as a 'data controller'. I've had to do it for a couple of sites where we collect personal data and store it. Quite painless really; in fact surprisingly easy for a country that's weighed down with such bureaucracy.

Have you asked LCN if you can send an email or letter "care of" them? That way they are not releasing any information.

Have you asked them that spefically? That is probably just a standard answer they give as they wont be able to give you any of his contact details due to data protection. I would call/email them and ask them the question i mentioned and see what they say.
