sorry, am I being a bit slow here, this Syrian electronic army hack into twitter and change the DNS and then brag about it on twitter ? is this the general idea or am I forgetting something ?

"Update II: The New York Times writes that hackers were able to change their DNS registration by attacking their registrar, Melbourne IT, apparently the same one used by Twitter."

This is significant breach of security. I wonder how customers of Melbourne IT will react.

Earlier Today, Syrian Electronic Army hacked into the Melbourne IT Server and changed the DNS records of NYTimes, Twitter, HuffingtonPost and few other domains. It appears the admin failed to reset the password and hackers still have access to the server- They have defaced the Melbourne IT's blog ( www.melbourneit.com.au/blog). "Hacked By SEA, Your Servers security is very weak" the defacement message reads. well they are hacking accounts in support of Assad, there likely to be even more proactive when the west decide to attack the Assad regime.

You are giving them too much credit

Their methods are in fact quite amateurish, they get a lot of press because they have gone after prominent targets but the attacks were quite basic. They could be bored kids.
