.UK Announced

Soonest

I sent my response back very early last year and have some amendments to e-mail. What's the latest time to submit these, 5pm? :)

According to Nominet website:

Office hours are 8:00am to 6:00pm Monday - Friday.

But received Nominet email about closing website feedback form at 5.30pm today.

So best before 5pm today to be safe.

Seems unfair that nominet sold of at auction the 2 letter .co.uk and then a year later propose the .uk totally devaluing the .co.uk

Also the opening up of multiyear renewals when they obviously were thinking about direct.uk at the same time. Seems slightly strange timing..

I understand that people want to take time to make up their minds, but if you're still waiting to make up your mind about the consultation with less than 2 hours left, you're not going to learn ANYTHING by delaying answering even one second longer!

I finally got round to completing the form last night, i'm really glad I did doo it, I feel better that I have given them my views, and urge anyone who hasnt done it yet, to do so.

Lets just hope they are actually going to listen to people views, and hope its just not a formality that they are doing this, with no intentions of taking peoples views on board. I only say this as I feel let down by nominet and don't actually trust them anymore due to their actions.

" 850 formal responses "

"We would like to remind stakeholders that our consultation on a potential new .uk domain name service closes today.

We have received more than 850 formal responses, as well as a range of feedback from meetings, phone calls and emails."

Blimey - I'm staggered.

GET YOURS IN MISSUS, now now, if you haven't already !

Still time .. if you do it NOW !

26th February

So, when do we think a decision will be made then?

Nominet News

Board meeting 26th February 2013.

No January meeting scheduled.

Not a seperate meeting it will be added to agenda.

Nominet are looking if they can reduce the usual 2 week delay between the meeting and advising of the decision!

Not a seperate meeting it will be added to agenda.

Thanks Stephen. I find it amazing that it can just be 'bolted on' to another scheduled meeting.

It should be a standalone meeting surely given the time it will take and importance!

Could not agree more.

When raised with Lesley Cowley, she assured me sufficient time had been put aside to discuss the .uk matter fully.

I find it amazing, as it takes me several hours to read the articles that provide the basis of any debate.

If it was me, due to the serious implications, I would provide all Directors with lots of content to read before hand and I would hold meeting over several days, with requests to people like Edwin to explain his viewpoint and answer some questions.

I think you might be over-estimating the level of discussions that happen at a Board Meeting. A lot goes on beforehand and they generally discuss several issues over a short amount of time.

I'm guessing there would be plenty of other internal senior meetings (including Nominet board members) to discuss in detail the findings before the official Board meeting. I would hope that if Board members felt they didn't have enough information at the Board Meeting then they would give instructions to that effect or they wouldn't be doing their job properly.

From the Registrar conference, some board members are determined on proceeding with opening up the second level i.e. Piers White bars any reasoned counter arguments. So some board members will be going into the meeting blinkered. A bunch of fools.

I genuinely believe that nominet have already made their mind up to proceed with direct.uk, even before the consultations.

Obviously they havent done much investigation or research themselves as is evident from merely suggestioning the idea of direct.uk, so I think the whole consulation period was just done to get ideas on the best way to proceed with the implementation and not 'if' they should.

I agree, have thought this from the start.

The only thing that may change their stance to 'if' may be the overwhelming negative response.

Everytime i see a .co.uk address on the back of a transit van when i'm in traffic, all i think is how much it's going to cost to replace the graphics. Sad i know.

Agreed. I then hope some 'baller' comes in and mounts a serious legal challenge considering the complete sham the whole event's been.

You do realise you are responsbile for this whole fiasco after a certain Nominet member saw this thread at the start and thought fek it, let's just go for it then! ;)

If it goes ahead..

I do believe most companies will try and register their .uk

I do not believe most businesses will use it though, they will just redirect the .uk to the .co.uk, especially in your scenario if they have to change advertising.. what would be the point in swapping to .uk just to cut out the co, certainly wouldn't be worth the money to change.

For SEO also I wouldn't swap to .uk and redirect my site just to cut out the .co

All the more reason .uk is pointless £20 tax that you will have to pay to protect your brand.
