Any domain extension can be made to rank on Google if you get enough links in to it.

Before you get heavily into .uk.com I would remember that the renewal fees are very high, around £50 a year.

The resale value is also limited because people know they are really subdomains of uk.com and that puts them off.

Diamonds.uk.com ranks nicely

Diamonds.uk.com which is a pretty competitive ranks on the second page for the keyword " Diamonds ".

I've seen a few popping up over the past year is nice positions.

Lots of successful brands and businesses use them see http://www.uk.com/showcase

Everything requires work to rank.

You will always have the "its a subdomain not a real domain" crowd sneering at you tho. Its not that hard a cross to carry when its YOU using the premium branded keyword.uk.com and joe blogs clicking on you all day long regardless of your extension and earning you money.

I cannot recommend using a private subdomain for your critical business operations.

First of all, it's not a real domain extension so you are at a disadvantage. Your competitors are using real extensions.
These names are expensive.
Then you are at the mercy of one company that is not regulated like a real registry.
These subdomains are more risky, that's a fact.
Example: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/08/01/thousands_of_gb_dot_com_sites_go_dark/

So even assuming that uk.com is no problem from a SEO pov, I don't think it's worth it. You've been warned

I have got some domains .uk.com for the past couple of years. Have you anyone ever sold any .uk.com domain? Thanks.

I agree, when weighed up against around £25.00 per year, with the downsides, I believe it is a risk well worth taking to use this extension. The risk should reduce the more they are used, and in my opinion the more valuable and desirable the best ones will become.

It seems like you need a bit more backlinks for 'exact match' .UK.COM compared to .co.uk or .org.uk. For brand recognition and possible brand confusion, I'd personally avoid that extension.
